My family to see Back to the Future when it was theaters and it became an instant favorite ours. The scene were Doc goes crazy about the “1.21 gigawatts” needed to power the time machine’s flux capacitor really stood out. None of us had any idea what a gigawatt was, and we often laughed that it was probably some ludicrous technical term that was made up for the script.

What ended up happening was that we would use the word “gigawatts” to describe any kind of extra technical function something might have. My mom got a new car and said something like, “Go check it out and test all the gigawatts.” When I bought a new computer for my first apartment my dad asked, “Does it have enough gigawatts?”.

I’ll freely admit that I had to Google “gigawatt” just now to finally know whether or not it’s a real thing (it is.) My family has been jokingly using the word for 25 years.

Few people know this, but the inventor of rap was actually a white man by the name of Robert Van Winkle.

Best known by his stage name of Vanilla Ice, Van Winkle’s 1990 magnum opus “Ice Ice Baby” was the first hip hop single to reach number one on the Billboard charts.

To commemorate his storied career and contributions to the hip hop genre, T-Shirt Hell has released this ice-cool t-shirt. With it’s bold illustration of Van Winkle, to stating simply, “Vanilla Ice Invented Rap”, the design of this shirt is an apt representation of this important figure in music history.

Threadless: Comics-On Tees!

The kids at Threadless just announced a special series of T-Shirts that are sure to please any discerning comic book fan.

Based a story written by Jill Thompson, they’ve teamed up with three other artists to create Volume 1 of Comics-On Tees.

“Every Night I Have the Same Dream” features designs by Thompson, Art Baltazar, Cliff Chiang, and Tony Moore. Each tee features some excellent artwork printed on two sides and they can be snapped up individually or as a collectors set of all four.

I just now discovered Headline Shirts and apparently they’ve been putting out some pretty sweet t-shirts. But I wouldn’t have known about it earlier because I’m the Worlds Worst T-Shirt Blogger.

But anyway, if you’re like me you can appreciate the tone and subject of Headline Shirts “Say Tweet Again” t-shirt. This Pulp Fiction themed tee adds a pretty vicious retort to anyone going on and on about their god damn tweets.
